The Scabs - Amory Building

Authorized reissue of the Scabs debut and lone 7", originally released by the band in 1979 on Club Land Records in Exeter, England.

Recorded in nearly 2 hours in North London, The Scabs originally released this 7" themselves and resorted to selling copies to their fellow students at the school cafe. The band broke up after a year and half, leaving nothing but the Amory Building 7" behind.

First time ever reissue of this record. "Leave Me Alone" was included on the iconic Soul Jazz Punk 45 comp of underground and rare UK punk 1977-1981, as well as a few Killed By Deaths.

Includes brand new liner notes from singer James Young and band photos. Deluxe pocket sleeve restored by Ken MacLaurin, mastered by Dave Williams.

Members of Moby Dicks, The Ballantynes, B-Lines, and many more, this is the debut Nervous Talk LP and the follow up to their 2013 7" on Mammoth Cave Records. 10 songs of '78-81 punk and power pop worship. For fans of Buzzcocks, Pointed Sticks, Teenage Head, Lover!, etc.

The Mandates - In The Back Of Your Heart LP
Second LP from Calgary, Alberta's The Mandates. This is also a follow up to a 2013 record put out by Mammoth Cave Records. This one includes obvious nods to Exploding Hearts and Clorox Girls, but also digs a little deeper than the band's debut with heavy influences from The Kids, The Boys, and The Saints. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Pat Kearns (Exploding Hearts, Observers, Clorox Girls, etc) in Portland, OR.

Brat Kings - Good Drugs 45
Best new band out of Toronto/Montreal. Members of Sonic Avenues and Pow-wows, these guys have something to prove and prove it well. Artwork done by Dave O'Connor (TV Freaks) and recorded with Maxime Desharnais (Sonic Avenues).

500 pressed, 75 with alternate sleeve.

The most recent in a long line of 7"s for this understated Toronto power pop band. This one follows up their essential LP from 2013 on Hozac Records. Four songs of Beach Boys-y, Protex-y, Rudi worship.

Since then they've released an LP on the not as legendary Chicago label Hozac Records, which was an international superhit. 4 songs, out early 2015.

Originally self released by The Moderns in 1979, this four-song 7" is one of the most important power pop records ever recorded. We’ve long had a crush on Ottawa’s garage punk scene thanks, largely, to torchbearers like Steve Adamyk, mainstays like Mother’s Children, and expats like Mass and Peach Kelli Pop. For the heaps of bands from the city, though, few balance sugar-shocked pop and buzzsaw punk quite like Average Times, who cut their self-titled debut last year via Toronto-Vancouver imprint Hosehead Records. That LP essentially had us at hello, largely thanks to its effervescent opener, “Popsicle,” whose video we’re stoked to premiere today. Unlike many of Average Times’ songs—whose scuzz compare favourably to Jay Reatard—”Popsicle” is an unabashed summer anthem. So, too, is its video: Directed by and starring the band themselves, the video is a beer-soaked backyard bash, with plenty of frozen treats to go around. Check the video above, and get your sticky fingers on a copy of Average Times’ LP at the Hosehead Records store.

All Quiet on the Northern Front

We've been relatively quiet since the Average Times LP came out last month. We're hard at work on our next four (!) releases. We're hoping to get at least the next three out before the end of the year. The first one is due out this June/July, so keep your ear to the ground for that one. We're working with two bands we never have before and three Hosehead staples - one of which was on a very early HHR release!

Next month is our three year anniversary. Maybe we'll do something cool for that (but probably not).

We still have a very small number of Average Times LPs in the webstore, and we're running low of t-shirts.

December 2013 update:

For the first time ever, one of our releases has made it's way onto the Earshot charts for Canada. Apparently college and community radio DJs and volunteers are liking it. Which is great! It was #43 on the top 50 last week and #25 this week. It would be cool to keep it going!

7"s have been moving steadily and we're almost out of red vinyl copies.
