I recently moved to a new apartment. When I moved in the apartment was bare, and any furnishings which were included were dull, or, well,… dull! Despite this, I found great potential in the apartment and understood that I could breathe life into it if I just got a bit creative. By including a couple of Canvas Prints, Lighting effects and a few personal touches, it became the trendiest flat I’ve ever had.
Following are a few simple, cheap Interior Design Ideas that helped alter my bland-flat, into a trendy bachelor pad!
1. Choose a Colour Scheme
The first thing that needed to be sorted in my new apartment was the colour scheme, or should I say, I had to first introduce a colour scheme. I like rock and metal music. I, therefore, like dark colours like black, dark reds and blues. It’s important when selecting a colour scheme that you select colours one reflects your personality. In the long run, I went with black and dark purple.
2. Paint
Now that I’d chosen my colour scheme it was time to get messy with paint. A fantastic technique when painting the walls of a space is to paint opposite walls the same colour, and the remaining two walls a different colour. In my case, I painted two of my reverse facing walls dark purple, and the remaining two I left white. These white walls are added to later with artwork and other similar decoration, to give them more appeal.
3. Decorate with Art and Personal Items
This part is fun and should reflect your hobbies and pursuits in life. As mentioned previously I am a massive fan of rock and metal music. To add more variation to the walls of my apartment I decided to spend a little money in some Canvas Photo Prints. I chose some of my favourite album covers, which included Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Pantera. I had my regional printing firm transform these images into wonderful Canvas Prints. They look great on the walls and give the place a very personal touch. I also have a couple of old guitars, so instead of throwing them out, I mounted them on the wall using a guitar holder which I purchased from a local music shop. Personal touches such as these really add individuality and character into a house, why not experiment with what you’ve got?
