2012 Releases/Out Of Print Warning

2012 was a big year for us. We did our first 7" and a bunch more tapes. Most of which are all sold out now, but the last few are well on their way. Here's some stock updates:

7":
Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs (45 copies)

Cassettes:

Big City Nights Band (26 copies)
Mother's Children (29 copies)
Decay/Wayfarer (22 copies)
Red Dons (11 copies)
Ketamines (18 copies)
White Wires (8 copies)

So some of these are closer to selling out than others obviously. Be sure to place an order sooner than later for any of these so we can afford to put out our next 7". We haven't announced the band yet, but they're good. Oh yes they are good. If you're reading this you probably already own a few of their records.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Ben Franklin's Grave

The PR firm Ben Franklin's Grave is going to be handling our PR needs from here on out. They're so good that you haven't even heard of them. Actually they're brand new. I'll post a link in this post once they get their site/twitter/tumblr/facebook/blogger/frogger/myspace/google maps link all hooked up. It's run by Bryne Yancey, so you know it's going to be good.

We're down to the last 10 copies of the silk screened Sam Coffey 7", so just on those now if you were waiting.

Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs are headed down to and around New York in late August in support of their new Hosehead 7" "All To Myself". This is the band's first string of American shows since they played down to and back from Memphis in early 2011. Photo: Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs 7" Sleeves

As of right now the only thing holding back the release of the Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs 7" is the 7" itself. As soon as we get word from the pressing plant that they're ready to be picked up, we'll let you buy them. AUX is going to be hosting a stream of the EP as well. The first 50 copies will have this screen printed sleeve, with the remaining 250 having a standard printed white sleeve.

Sam Coffey interview with Fuss Magazine

Our good friend Sam recent sat down with Mark Gillis from the new Kitchener/Waterloo-based news outlet Fuss Magazine for an interview. He said some really nice things about us and talked about the new Iron Lungs 7" coming out on Hosehead later this month. Continue reading or click here to read the interview.

Review Roundup #2

12 months after I submitted HHR001: First Base - Party, Party, Party EP for review to the great Razorcake, and 11 months after the release sold out, they published a review. Better late than never! Thanks to Maddy and Razorcake for taking time to listen to the tape, and remind me that I really do want to put out this EP as a 7".

FIRST BASE:
Party, Party, Party: Cassette
America, it is time to admit defeat! We have been bested by a CASSETTE TAPE released in Canada! Three lo-fi bubblegum pop songs on a yellow piece of plastic that has been overheating in my car stereo for days! ‘60s pop = punk rock! One gripe: when a release is this good, I want it on a record, not a shitty tape! Fortunately, First Base has at least one seven-inch I’m aware of, and it includes a cover of a tune by (the ridiculous and amazing) Personal And The Pizzas! More, please! –Maddy (Hosehead, hoseheadrecs@gmail.com)

HHR018: Ketamines - Spaced Out

That's right folks, our surprise tour release is none other than Ketamines' debut LP Spaced Out. Originally released by Mammoth Cave and South Paw, we're doing 100 copies of the album in celebration of 10 weeks of touring in 2012. Ketamines are taking most of the copies on tour with them, but I'm going to hold onto a couple and add them to our webstore on May 29th, 2012 for those who aren't inline with the tour dates.

In other news, GetBent.fm is giving away a free copy of the tape to someone who stops by the story and leaves a comment with the title of their favourite track. I say free as in free for you. I still have to pay shipping.

Get Bent Review: Strange Attractor

Read Get Bent's full review of Strange Attractor's Euro Tour sampler here.

"Strange Attractor is the basement recording project of Jeff Houle of Statues and the Havocs, but this isn’t some boring indie bedroom pop wimpiness. Strange Attractor is a chaotic mutant breed of 60s garage and early snotty punk, kind of like the Troggs being covered by Japanther. The brand new Euro Tour Tape out on Hosehead Records contains some of the best sweaty, raw rock ‘n’ roll jams from the riotous Canadian scene I’ve heard all year."

HHR018 will be out on May 28th, 2012

HHR018 sort of fell into my lap last week. A band that I like a whole lot and have wanted to work with for a while now just happened to ask us to put out their new tape for their upcoming 10-week tour. I'm not going to say who it is just yet, as that announcement is in the works for next week, but here's a few hints.

They're Canadian (go figure).
They have real close ties to one of Canada's best record labels.
Their debut LP has just about sold out of the 1000-run first pressing.
This.

Tiny Grooves called us "your new favorite label".

Tiny Grooves is one of my favourite blogs out there today. They show me awesome live videos from bands I already love, and show me new garage/power pop bands that I love soon. Jon, who writes Tiny Grooves, was kind enough to give us a general write up, including a small review of a couple of our releases and a glowing comparison of use to the immortal Burger Records. Thanks to Jon and everything he does over at Tiny Grooves.

Listen to the new Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs 7" (in which were are putting out)

Sam Coffey and the Iron Lungs just started recording a new batch of songs, and we're putting the first two done out on a 7" this summer. The band are recording themselves in their jamspace in Kitchener, Ontario on an 8 track. It sounds pretty awesome if you ask me.

Sonic Avenues/Steve Adamyk Band European Tour 2012 Dates

In an effort to make this blog a little more useful, I'm going to be posting updates on our bands. Lets start this out with tour dates for the upcoming Sonic Avenues/Steve Adamyk Band European tour. The dates are pretty bare bones at this point as far as local openers are concerned, so if you need more information on a specific show I'd suggest asking the bands themselves.

New Tapes: Mother's Children and Strange Attractor

HHR015: Strange Attractor - European Tour 2012 Sampler tape
This is Jeff from Statues' solo project (featuring the other two guys from Statues on drums and guitar and one member of Ultra Violence Ray). It's a lot dirtier and more garage than Statues. Sampler featuring choice cuts from all the Strange Attractor records as well as a bunch of demos/unreleased/alt mixes and all that funs tuff. 20 songs in total, with a download code.

Strange Attractor - Nite Stalker

HHR016: Mother's Children - That's Who! tape
Reissue of their debut full length on Deranged Records. 11 songs of power pop perfection from these Ottawa, Ontario's locals. This one is also to go along with their upcoming European tour, so we don't have a lot of copies for sale as they're taking most of them.

Hey look, we're selling shirts

A few months ago I posted about how we were getting some new t-shirts in with the McKenzie Brothers design (the dino's were snubbed, but hopefully I'll get a chance to screen some of those this summer), and, well, they're here. My friend Josh (of the Vegan Boy variety) screened them on thrifted shirts in his garage in Colorado, so they're punk as fuck. We're selling them for $8, and it would be pretty cool if you picked one up. We have a limited amount of each size and a ton of others (seriously, we have a lot of small and 2XLs. So lose or gain some weight), so check out what we have in stock and what colours you like.

Buy them here

We've also got TWO new tapes out next week: Strange Attractor - Euro Tour Sampler (20 songs, a bunch of unreleased/remixes/all that fun stuff) and Mother's Children - That's Who! (11 songs).

First update of 2012

So here we are. Our first update of 2012. Thanks to everyone who has stuck with us until this point. We have almost all the pieces to release our next three tapes (HHR011-013), we're just waiting on a batch of Hosehead tshirts to release with the White Wires tape.

Due to a delay to do with the vinyl test pressings, the LP version of Sonic Avenues - Television Youth has been delayed until January 31st, so the tape has as well.

Hopefully the White Wires and Sam Coffey/Shakey Aches tapes will be up in the store and for sale later this week. We also just got a new batch of stickers to go out with orders!
